When you refer to most countries, you just refer to the name, with no article (Canada, France, and so on). A major exception to this usage is, of course "the" United States. So here's my question:

In a sentence such as "We have an office in the United Kingdom", I'm pretty sure you need to include the word "the" before "United Kingdom". (Hope that's correct!)

I've been trying to find a resource that will confirm this, so that I can back up a proposed correction to a corporate document. I've looked through various dictionaries and the Chicago Manual of Style, and can't find what I'm looking for. Any ideas?
