If you have to share your docs, make sure you include the graphics in
the subdirectory, yes. Zipping the files into one archive is a cool way
of doing this.

E-mail yourself or the colleague the zip file.

However, bear in mind that Word itself--graphics aside--is not
completely portable, several things are affected by moving a Word doc
from one machine to another and occasionally, these things will barf;
such as numbered lists, and items depending on the registry or
normal.dot.

FWIW, I often use the same graphics in more than one place, especially
screen captures of buttons, or the like.

If you need to share a copy for review, but not editing, send out a PDF.

Cheers and grins,

Sean

Well... ok, if you MUST link your graphics, be sure you never have to
share docs with anyone, or make sure that graphics directory is on a
shared network drive. And never ever e-mail a copy to a client or
off-site colleague or yourself at home to work on it.

I'm perfectly happy to keep the graphics in the file. I use small
formats to keep the file size under control, and they travel cheerfully
with the file. I also have so many different apps to document, the odds
of needing the same graphic in two places are very slim. Update it one
place or another, it's only one update. Also saves me from getting
confused :)

Link your graphics, do not embed them.

Do this and never look back.

Why? It gives you a bijillion options down the line that are not
available to you with embedded images. Put the linked graphics in a
subdirectory called "graphics."
