Hello listers.

Good thread on words that really shouldn't be.

I am having trouble coming to terms with the expression "grow".
Example: "grow your company".

My linguistics, semantics, grammar, whatever are long gone, but isn't this about transitive and intransitive verbs ?

When I was a kid (in the UK) we made things grow.

We did "grow tomatoes" but this is a different concept isn't it ?

When exactly did "grow" lose its transitivity (sic) ?

I'm sure real grammar gurus will rip me apart on this, but hey, I only remember what's useful in my job.
My brain archives (hey another one !) the rest for rainy days. Which are actually quite regular in Norway.

Thanks,

Med vennlig hilsen // Regards,
