It all depends upon the company doing it. By the time I got an interview for my current job, I didn't even remember actually applying. It took probably a month before they finally made an offer, and another few weeks before I got the actual offer letter.
I relocated to Austin around Labor Day 2000, and about a month later I got a message on my machine from a company that I had interviewed with in May, asking me if I was still interested.
