I think we do agree, but the issues are being blurred.
If I (anyone, really) am putting in excessive
overtime, there's a problem there. More often than
not, it can be traced back to two main factors:
1. The person working insane hours either doesn't care
about the hours, or is ill-fitted for the job.
2. The project is horribly mismanaged.
More time than not, I see project plans where employee
tasks are calculated at 100%. This right there assumes
the employee is going to work overtime every week, as
aside from project work there are:
And many other factors above and beyond the project.
I've even seen instances where employees involved with
more than one project were flagged at 100% on each
project! Talk about miscommunication! But from these
project plans, milestones are calculated and deadlines
are set. Poor planning.
