I believe that this depends on where you live. I've had a chronic condition
(kidney disease) for 25 years and I have health insurance. In Mass, no one
can be denied for any reason (this was enacted in 2000). I also have
disability insurance (although my kidneys are exempt...as long as I'm out
for any reason not related to my kidneys, I'm covered).
