I have dual setups off of laptops at both home and work and would never go back. My productivity definitely goes down when I'm traveling and limited to one monitor. At home I have a Dell Inspiron with a 15"; here a Sony Vaio hooked up to a 17". I added nothing to either to make the setup work. But on the Sony, it only works with Windows 98 (confirmed by Sony).
