Dear Writer not-so-technical,
As you probably have surmised, the list is not very forgiving of those who
ask simple questions on base terminology. It's nothing personal but it does
seem to be habitual to most all technical writers (myself included) in that
since searching for knowledge is so key to our profession, those that do not
display a basic understanding of *how* to search quickly get belittled.

But on to your specific questions:

Knowledge Management, Single Sourcing and Usability and Design are all big
topics in technical writing. As such there are many heated debates on each
of the above.

A search with the search engine at http://www.google.com on any of these
terms results in a lot of hits.

Knowledge Management 3,590,000
Single Source 3,920,000 (Single Sourcing 157,000)
Usability and Design 502,000 (Usability 1,060,000, Design 61,900,000)

With google usually the first 10-20 links provide a good answer or at least
a good set of links that lead you closer to your answer.

If you wish to learn what this list has said about these topics, I recommend
you search the Techwr-l archives at:
http://www.raycomm.com/techwhirl/archives/archives.html

If you are looking for a series of websites that could give you a good
text-book definition of these terms, try these as starting points:
http://www.refdesk.com/
http://whatis.techtarget.com/
http://www.glossarist.com/
http://web.mit.edu/uaa/www/writing/links/

Hope this helps.
