RE: Knowledge Management
How can you prepare a seminar on things you don't understand?
It could be an assignment for a course.
(It *is* the beginning of September, right?).
And, even in the real world, sometimes you are *told* to do things like that. I've had the experience several times, myself.
A manager walks in and says "What do you know
about TopicX?" (It could by KM or RoboHelp or
JavaDocs or Rational's SODA templates.)
Me: <cautiously> "I've heard of it."
Manager: "Good."
Me: <even more cautiously> "Why?"
Manager: "You're gonna teach the developers
how to do it at the staff meeting next Thursday."
Me: <caution justified> "Glrp?!?"
In either case, it seems natural to explore multiple sources of information. And this list has a reputation as a wonderful source of experienced advice. I've made panicked requests here, myself, although I usually include some background information to explain why I'm asking (and generate a little sympathy <g>).
Most of the time, when I see a seemingly clueless request, I send a clue or two off-list. On the rare occasions when I'm irritated rather than amused, I just don't answer it. Keeps life simpler, that way.
