We pay our translators for a proofreading by a second translator, so
everything is seen by at least two people fluent in both English and the
target language. We have a few people in house who can (and do) look at
some of the languages, but not every language is covered this way.

The only thing I check (because it's the only thing I'm capable of
checking) when the translation comes back to me is the page layout. Many
languages expand the text, and I make sure graphics are with the right
paragraphs and that the document "looks" good, according to our styles.

We used to have the page layout done by the translators, at considerable
expense. I would still have to check them, though, so I've recently
started doing the majority of the page layouts myself, which saves us a lot
of money. Double-byte fonts will probably be an exception to this, though.

Hope this helps,
Lisa B.

"Writing about yourself is a tremendously powerful exercise. If you want to
know how accurately you perceive reality in the present, try writing about
your perception of your past. You just might discover an entirely new
reality."--Lisa Bronson
