I want to thank those that have chimed in with their thoughts on this. I'm
going to pursue membership in STC and volunteer for some work until I can
prove my value. Someone had asked where I am located. I am in the Ann
Arbor/Detroit area.

If there is one thing I have noticed immediately about people working in
tech writing, it's their helpful nature. I've been working as a
computer/network guy for 5 or 6 years now and while I've met some great and
helpful people, the "community" isn't always as friendly toward "newbies".

Thanks again for the suggestions. I will be lurking, and will contribute
when I have some expertise of my own.

Jay Welter
