::: I am most interested in WYSIWYG tools that promote ::: productivity increases and automation (XML possibly).

The next version of OpenOffice.org (should be 1.2) will include XML mport. It's free for the download, and should be ready in a few weeks.

If you're used to working in MS Word, OpenOffice.org will be reasonably familiar, but much more powerful. Many of the nagging problems of MS Word, such as the automated numbering and master document corruption, are solved in OO.o. In addition, OO.o is more style-oriented in every aspect. For all these reasons, once you get used to the switch, you should be much more productive in OO.o than in MS Word.
