-CVS is not a lock system.
..True..

-it will not update changes made to an rtf of word doc, therefore i have
to check out the rtf/doc, update it and if i wanted to merge any changes
i'd have to use Word's Merge Changes tool. Is this correct?
..Correct..But what do you mean by merging? Generally when there is a tem
working with the docs in CVS, everybody has their local copies which they
edit and modify. When you commit a file to CVS, it is updated on the CVS.

-Would CVS work perfectly with HTML (webhelp files?)? Currently only HTML
help is generated from Robo's Single Source tool.
...Yes, CVS works fine with HTMLs...THe process of checking out, updating
and committing is similar to other formats.

-Will CVS cause any unforeseen problems when i check in/out .rtfs or
.docs?
...Nope...

-Can anyone tell me if there are any major problems i have to look out
for?
...Conflicts can arise when 2 people work on the same doc and commit the
doc to CVS. In that case, the most recent changes would only be reflected
in the CVS doc. Let's say A has modified at time T1 & B has modified at
time T2, then when both commit, A's changes are overwritten by B's
changes.
The best thing to do in this scenario is to to always ensure that you
download the latest file from CVS before starting to modify.
