Data-sensitive online help?

I'm being asked about developing a help system which, when called from a field, gets the data item (or type?) in the field, gets a binding of the data
to a help topic, then displays the topic.

I don't remember ever seeing such an implementation. Has anyone done this? Any clues?

The environment is .NET / C# / HTML Help.
