Ok, the main arguements I'm hearing for unions is:

Better pay
Better benefits
Better working conditions

I'll start at the top and work my way down:

Better pay--In six years as a tech writer, my salary has ranged from 45 - 80k. I can't imagine an arguement in the world that could convince anybody that this is not a more-than-fair wage. Definitley better than what I made as a memeber of the Seafarers International Union when I worked as a tankerman on an offshore rig. So, we (tech writers) are not some exploited group who is toiling away to struggle to feed our kids and shelter our dingos.

Better benefits -- I've had full health and dental at evey tech gig I've joined. Most have had offered life insurance, contributing 401K programs, ample paid time off, flexible work schedules (hours, or the ability to work from home).

Better work conditions-- are we serious? Every place I've worked was indoors, carpeted, air conditioned/heated, clean, safe, and well lit. I've had state of the art equipment and at a bare minimum, free coffee. Heck one company in Austin provided annual company trips to Hawawii, the Bahamas, etc., company jet boats, fully stocked gourmet kitchens, concierge services, and door prizes at our every-Friday-fully-catered happy hour included a new Jaguar. I can't think of too many professions that enjoy a more hospitable, safe, and enjoyable work environment.

So, what were you're arguements for unionizing again?
