As a corollary, "Tell *everyone* when you're looking for help".

I'll back this up with an anecdote of my own.

I play European-style boardgames and am active on a list with about 150 or so other Eurogamers who live in the Northeast. I posted an [OT] email to the list mentioning a job opening at Macromedia, knowing a few of the members are out of work engineers. Not more than a half an hour later, I had nearly 10 good resumes in my inbox.
