I found a handy freeware tool this morning that will generate a Social
Security Number, First Name, Last Name, and Street Address, for when you
want something more unique than cartoon characters or ex-boyfriends in a
sample database.
Here's the info from ZD Net, and a link to the download site. There is no
documentation, but it is easy to use, and will generate at least 100
records at a time. I ran ad-aware, and there does not appear to be any
spyware. I do not know where the source of the data comes from for the
names and addresses.

"This application will generate random Social Security Numbers, Names, and
Street Addresses. I've written the application to create random values for
load testing software, such as Mecury's (TM) Load Runner, which in turn can
be used to populate an application's database. **Data is instantly copied
to the Windows Clipboard!**"
The Summer/Fall 2002 Solitary Scrivener (STC Lone Writer SIG newsletter)
has an article on generating names, including this link to a random
generator that uses census records and will generate up to 30 names at a
time, and you can define gender and uniqueness of
names. http://www.kleimo.com/random/name.cfm
Also, a google search on random name generator will come up with lots of
sites for generating names of all types.
