I'm glad you posted this! I've watched my husband struggle with the way
some folks write their instructions. I think this is a fascinating bit of
instruction design that is very neglected.

I will send you separately a Frame layout I did for him when the folder of
his recipes finally split its seams.

I'd recommend looking at some of the online cooking sites that provide
recipes, such as www.epicurious.com (good example, the antipasto salad) or
www.cooking.com. Also Martha Stewart LIving has a pullout section of
recipe cards - next to this is always a page that outlines how to pull the
whole dinner together.

Good books we've used are Tra Vigne's (terrible fonts though), Julia
Child's "The Way to Cook", and "The New Basics" (which I fondly refer to
as "The New Yuppie").

These do not differ dramatically from the standard layout you outlined,
but may jumpstart some ideas.
