The MasterCook software application (available for very few $$ at your local
computer store) does all this for you. I think it would have a problem
sorting out the elements of a technical cookbook, but you could get some
good ideas about that from this program.

BUT in my part of the country, those darn grocery store designers and
managers keep changing the location of stuff in the store. The software I
mentioned does generate grocery store lists, but it just can't keep up with
those stock clerks!
