is it still a really good idea to use a single word "enter"
in two different senses, in a single sentence.?

No, I just used that because it was in the proposal by Alan. (And that wasn't the point of the discussion.) But if this turns into a writing clinic ;-) - how about:

Entering a secret password provides access to the Pentagon database.
