Take a look at Spy-CD's java applet CD search engine
(http://www.phdcc.com/spy-cd/). The online documentation doesn't appear to
mention .chm files, but since .chm files are essentially a composite of
html, xml and javascript code, the tool might just work for you.

Users should be able to search for keywords in CHM, HTM, and PDF files
as they can on any website.
