Many Windows-based tools create links of the form
<a href="C:\My Documents\My Big File.htm">Read it!</a>
which is not valid syntax for a URL (backslashes, no protocol specifier, spaces, etc.). Even if it were a valid URL, your Mac probably doesn't know anything about drive C.
