TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
>>I disagree. STC could not have been any

>>communication were in fact a profession.
>That's certainly your right. You just have no idea how much I disagree.
>John Posada
It's uncannily difficult to clearly define a professional technical
writer (something to do with horsepower in the conceptual engine,
life-long student of process, fanaticism for appropriate message
presentation, and vivid empathy). But if you work it the other way and
define what is a profession and what makes any person professional, you
should find many technical writers nodding from experience at each
point.
Here's another stab at defining the profession -- Technical writers are
concept mechanics. (Once we clearly define "concept", we're home free
;-)
Keepin' the sunny side up and my fingers outta' the gears,
