The reason a C++ guru might not be able to get a job in a java shop is not
because they are trapped in a C++ certification (whatever that means), but
because they thought that people hired them BECAUSE they have that
certification instead of because of what they know. They aren't hired
because they don't know java, not because they are C++ certified.

Yeah but any respectable tech writing certificate will be heavily
technology-specific. Therefore the next time the technology shifts
slightly you will become trapped by your certification. Like the C++
gurus who can't get hired for Java jobs, or the MSCEs who can't get
Unix sysadmin jobs.
