TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Guys...being certified in anything is not a free ride. You must know your
stuff...in fact, you must know it better.
Certification is not the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval which would open
doors for anything that slightly resembles technical writing, you must
maintain your skills and update them every year
In addition, maybe there would be different ones;
Software (SWTC)
Skills: languages, SLC, process, security, etc.
Hardware (HWTC)
Skills: engineering principles, manufacturing principles, mechanical
principles, safety, etc.
Instructional (ITC)
Skills: how people learn, human factors, etc.
Microsoft has the MCSE. To get that, you need to pass a certain number of
core tracks, then based on what you want to do, can pick X tracks from a
selection that applies to your area. Same could be done with this. Certify a
core set, then pick from a list of tracks oriented to your specialty. They
could include Proposal, Marcom, Government, etc.
Nobody said it would be easy. Good things never are.
