RE: Why are companies now requiring techical writer candidates to be SMEs?
(I'm in a very questioning mood today.)
Gene, can you cite some statistics to support this statement? "As others
have noted, these are often intended to support the hiring of someone
the hiring manager already wants to hire, and are written to exactly fit
a specific person rather than a desired candidate. There are a lot more
of these than there have been in the past few years."
I'm wondering whether there really are more, or if it's just a
comforting excuse when we (collective "we") don't get hired and postings
are more scarce, or when we don't meet all the qualifications. I'm not
denying that people do tailor ads to individuals with backgrounds that
aren't likely to happen again in the wild. I'm wondering if we truly
think that companies are unreasonable to request skills/background that
meet their needs and that they are somehow tilting the field unfairly?
