I don't think that in the areas that were hotbeds of high tech a few short years ago employers have forgotten how much disdain they had for people who stayed at one job for a long time. So they ought not to be taking points away from people who got with the program and job-hopped for the last decade.

In other areas, where the dominant industry was more traditional manufacturing, employers have probably always valued loyalty.

The biggest problem in all this, of course, is that even in those more traditional areas, most of the employers have forgotten that loyalty cuts both ways.
