Well, I recognized Tom Murrell's name, so I opened his post. Prior to that, I hadn't a clue that "logos in MOM" was anything other than a misspelled come-on for a Viagra substitute.

We always have the issue in front of us of deciding whether a particular acronym, abbreviation, or term is known globally, known within an industry, known across a profession, or known only within a company. I try to err on the side of caution by spelling out what I mean in the first place and then providing a short form if applicable, rather than starting with the acronym and assuming everyone knows what it means--except for those abbreviations that really are global, like AM and PM.

Given the quantity of spam flooding all our inboxes, I think it is worth a moment of thought when writing a subject line for a post that you want people actually to read.
