There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which
you are required to know all about the area in which you work.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which
you are not required to know all about the area in which you work.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which a
liberal arts degree (English, History, etc.) is suitable education.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which a
pure science degree (Biology, Physics, etc.) is suitable education.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which an
applied sciences degree (Engineering, etc.) is suitable education.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which
prolonged practical experience in a particular field is the only suitable
preparation.
There are some jobs with the job title "technical communicator" for which a
degree or diploma in technical communication is suitable training.
However, I expect that there are far fewer of the latter than there were
five years ago, or even two years ago, and I don't expect that to change.
There is no course of study that will qualify you for all job that have the
title "technical communicator".
The common denominator uniting all jobs with the title "technical
communicator" is that they all have the title "technical communicator".
