Do the reserves accept middle-aged people with no training,
experience or aptitude for the clearance-required ratings,
and actually put those people in those positions? I mean,
can you get the jobs you want, or do you join up and get
put where they need you? "I see that you have lots of experience
writing manuals and procedures -- we need people to operate
heavy equipment and confiscate boats; here's your helmet.
But first, we have to train you to march in step, salute,
recognize what requires saluting, point a rifle, etc., which
will occupy the first year of your hitch, at the rate of two
weekends per month. Specialist training will require contiguous
blocks of time approximately four times greater than the vacation
days that any employer will allow you. Show your initiative by
working that out on your own. Be here next Saturday, at 07:00
in full kit."

Hum? That's not how it works? Oh. :-)
