From searching Techwrl, I've seen recommendations for Deva Tools or HTML Indexer to create an index. Is it not possible to generate an index in Dreamweaver?
Sure. The index created by HTML Indexer is just an HTML file (or several HTML files, if you choose) that can be read by any browser.
It's just a lot easier to create an index in a specialized tool than to code it up by hand. HTML Indexer takes care of all the formatting, ensures you don't mistype any URLs, creates all the nested entries, lets you create "see" and "see also" entries that point to other index entries, and a lot more--all the stuff that would be such a pain if you had to do it yourself. But you certainly *can* do it yourself, if you have the time.
If you need to create HTMLHelp, HTML Indexer can also create the .hhk file to populate the Index tab, with no extra work on your part.
