In other words, some series are really useful in that form, even if they have
semicolons.
Again, I agree. But they could be even more useful if they were rearranged as a bulleted list, getting rid of the semicolons.
For example, take a look at David's example:
Your choices are A; B, C, and D; or E.
Now rearrange that:
Your choices are:
- A
- B, C or D
- E
I find this second way of putting the options much clearer. (Which is the reason that I prefer it; getting rid of the semicolon is just incidental.)
