Does Goober (or anyone else on the list) have a number source for that 80%
"being outsourced to companies employing people with little to no nursing
experience, because they can pay them $10-$15/hr?" I know someone looking
into nursing who got a very different picture from fellow students.

Thanks,

Do your market research first.

The nursing profession is being outsourced about 80%
of the time, and it's being outsourced to companies
employing people with little to no nursing experience,
because they can pay them $10-$15/hr. These "nurses"
can rarely set an IV, and know little more than how to
take someone's blood pressure or change a bedpan.

Several of my family members are nurses. Thankfully,
they've been around long enough that they are seen as
invaluable to the hospitals they work at. But, they
are always watching their backs and worry whenever the
topic of budget cuts enters the equation (which is
pretty much every quarter). After all, why employ a
$45/hr full-time nurse when you can hire one for
$15/hr who works part time. It's a shame that the
experience of these nurses rarely enters into the
decision criteria (as the $45/hr nurse is probably
fluent in cardiothoracic surgery procedure, critical
care, and most-likely medication dosage).

So if you thought the tech writing arena has its
problems, rest assured that there are other industries
who are seeing the same, if not worse conditions.
