While I agree with the responses about what are the most important skills, is that really what Ted was asking?

Wouldn't 'cutting edge' skills cover, well, things on the cutting edge of technology? Things that a writer who already has strong writing, organizational, and technical skills could learn to advance to the forefront of the profession?

I realize this could cover a broad range of specialities, but it sounds like an interesting topic.
