I presume that phone calls fall into the same hole, sooner or later the
long distance bill will exceed the invoice in question. Unfortunately,
there's probably not much else you can do that won't eventually cost
you more than you're owed. So unless your cousin is willing to go
to bat for you with this person he's "always in touch" with, about the
only thing you can do is keep posting completely factual and fully
documentable accounts of your dealings with him in various forums
other tech writers may read so that he'll find it difficult to do the same
to others. One thing in your favor is, it'd probably be just as financially
impractical for him to threaten action for libel if you identify his company
by name as a "non-payer" as it would be for you to sue him for the money
he owes you, but just to be safe, only identify the company, not the
individuals involved.
Oh, how close are you with your cousin? If your relationship can stand it,
never let him live this down. :)
