The reason that Microsoft is changing the style in their operating system
help is that they are targeting their operating system to the laggard
market. The laggard market will not buy software if the tool task aren't
sublimated away.

By changing the text presentation, they are hoping to paper over the fact
that you still have to save files and do things the software makes you
rather than the things you do, because you are doing real work and being
productive.

We are so used to the artificial or tool task layer that we think it belongs
there and it doesn't.

Likewise the MOS has been targeted to the laggard market for at least the
last two revisions.

These new styles and methodologies are inappropriate for use in technical
enthusiast content, but just fine for content directed towards people who
don't think they need a computer.
