Speaking as one who has a B.A. in English, I can say from long experience that many English majors *can't write worth a damn!*

Although you may disagree, I seriously doubt that an intense study of English romantic poetry, for instance, will be of much help for budding technical writers beyond an appreciation for doing research.

However, an English degree and half a buck will get you a cup of coffee most places--and of course it may also help you articulate the phrase "Do you want fries with that?"

People who have an English degree will say its great. People who don't will
justify why they don't need one.
