Re: Better to index in Word or Frame?
I haven't used Frame, but most professional indexers seem to love IXGen and
vastly prefer it over Frame's built-in tools. That being the case, Frame
sounds like a clear win, particularly if you can get IXGen to use with it.
As I wrote earlier, *anything* with a dedicated indexing interface is better than *anything* without a dedicated indexing interface.
Out of the box, I think Word and Framemaker offer pretty much the same strengths and weaknesses in terms of built-in support for indexing.
It is the existence of IXgen (Frank Stearns Associates, www.fsatools.com) that makes Framemaker the better choice.
Indexing in Word makes sense *only* if the source material is a Word document and has to stay that way, *and* you need to embed the index entries for ongoing maintenance or to accommodate certain specific situations where the index entries have to be developed as the text is being written.
