At the risk of sounding as though I have only one subject on this list, I
suggest that you look at OpenOffice.org. It's free, it has version control and
can track changes. Moreover, while not at Quark's level, it's just slightly
below FrameMaker for design work. The only possible drawback is how well you
can import your MS Word document into it; you might not have any troubles, but
you'd have to try it to see.
