I have been commanded to have certain portions of the text highlighted with
a yellow background (as if you had actually used a highlighter). At first I
was making yellow boxes and sending them behind the text. However when the
text moved, the yellow box would stay where I had put it.

I have come up with an extremely clunky way of accomplishing it, but my
solution is a crime against nature and healthy for neither man or machine.
I create an anchored frame "at insertion point" and put the yellow box and
the text in the anchored frame.

Can anyone think of a better way of doing this?

FrameMaker does not support highlighting -- so you can simulate
it either through anchored frames with text frames, as you did,
or with tables and cell shading.

If the output produced from FrameMaker is PDF, it is possible to include
definitions for Acrobat "highlights" in FrameMaker files through hypertext
markers; this requires TimeSavers + custom shortcuts during distilling.
Exact location for the "highlight" is controlled through a character format
applied to the text (character format may be set to all "as is" if you
don't want the text itself to look different).

demonstrates "highlight" annotations, coloring specific terms.
Double-clicking the highlighted word opens a window with additional
text (optional). Placing the cursor on the highlighted word displays the
additional information as a tooltip; you can control color, annotation style
(highlight, underline, squiggly, strikeout) and printing (i.e. highlight
is on-screen only, or screen & print).

Note: To display "highlight" annotations in PDFs, end users need to have
Reader 6, or Acrobat 4 & higher.
