Having lurked on this list for the last five years, I have grown
accustomed to the sometimes brash postings of some of the members.
These members treat everyone like old friends, laying
tongue-in-cheek insults and hard advice on first time posters and
veterans alike. This can be a shocking blast to those new to the
profession and list.

Those new members who dip their foot in the pool and try to inch
their way in, are in for a shock when Plato dunks them under! But if
they'll stick around after the initial shock and get used to the
environment, they'll find it most refreshing.

I credit this list and members for my small modicum of success.
When I was a newbie and documentation problems would arise in
meetings, I would keep my mouth shut, run to the list, glean answers
from some of the most talented members of our profession, and then
come back and claim those answers as my own! :-) I can appear to be
as smart as Mr. Posada - just with a slight delay (particularly when
the servers are down!). Even this makes me appear to be thoughtful!

I don't know what I would have done without this list. My
department has gone from seven members to just me! Thank you
Techwr-l! While I don't know if my fragile ego could handle actually
working side-by-side with some of the members, knowing they were
always a few short keystrokes away gave me the confidence to succeed
in a new and difficult profession.

Thanks again. My door is always open to Techwr-l members and the
first beer's on me.
