I find that I write in a number of ways through the course of any given day
and my writing reflects the hat that I'm wearing at any particular moment
(and therefore evolves based on the needs of the hat, and not in one stock
fashion).
In my case, I'm a TW by day, write tech and gaming news posts and articles
for 3DGPU.com on the side, and am a creative writer at night and on the
weekends. I recently noted six basic styles of writing that I use on any
given day and I flip back and forth between the different styles with
transparent ease: SMS, IM, casual e-mail / forum posts, news posts and
aticles, technical writing, creative writing.
If my technical writing is evolving to be more active and more spare, my
creative writing is expanding to become more dynamic and more subtle (where
the emphasis isn't on brevity but on style or voice or narrative art).
As writers, our bag of tricks is diverse (in my mind's eye, I imagine
nodding agreement). In this case, Necessity is the mother of Adaptation
(much to the surprise of Invention).
