Especially since 2/3 of the economy is consumer buying. Tax cuts and
home equity loans have fueled consumer spending recently; how many
tricks like that can be found to sustain our spending?
Oh, the US has plenty of tricks in its historical bag: a populist return to political control over business activity (think TR and trust-busting) or a re-implemention of progressive taxation (think FDR), or just a general re-assertion of the rights of common folk (think Andrew Jackson, etc).
