Geoff,
I have 2 years of experience with STC convention (and events) programming, yet I never used a tool for this, we just met and emailed. The solution I'm proposing comes from work though, not STC. We are using a somewhat hidden function of Excel 2000 (it probably exists in XP as well). You prepare your table with tasks, statuses and whatever you need and upload it to a website by selecting File > Save as Web Page >check Selection: Sheet, check Add Interactivity (this bit does the trick) and click Publish. Then, under Viewing Options, check Add Interactivity With and select an option. Check Open Published Web Page in Browser and click Publish to see it immediately. Works like a charmer.
