This is precisely what I do, as well. I gather requirements, then oversee the validation and testing of software products in a biotech lab. Almost nothing that I work on ever leaves the physical confines of our building.

My education is in mathematics. I came into this field with absolutely no medical background, except that I once changed cat litter boxes in a genetics research lab back in the early 1970's.

I don't know that any particular degree will make a person better suited for this type of work; what is needed is a little logical thinking and common sense.

By the way, I work in Seattle -- another hotbed of biotechs. The drug we all hate -- Cia**s (gotta get past those spam filters...) was invented right down the road from here!
