Just for the record (and I know it wasn't done intentionally, as this has been a long and somewhat convoluted topic), I didn't say anything about "information architect." I did say "engineer," as technical communication *is* an engineering discipline.

There is a difference between those who use titles to mask the fact that they are doing little more than writing and editing, and those who adopt titles that more accurately reflect the work that they do (or know how to do), work where writing might be just a small part of their responsibilities.
