I wrote about this topic a few minutes ago under another subject line, but I thought of something to add to it. In a situation like Shannon's, if you take a job rather than spending another year to get a master's degree, not only are you gaining valuable experience, but your then-employer might even help you pay for the higher degree. Getting experience and free education and getting paid for it at the same time certainly has its advantages!
