Why is there an issue with ?non-volatile?? I take it that since SSD is an
alternative to conventional hard disk then RAM in this context refers to
conventional hard disk. In both cases the contents are not lost when power
is turned off, hence non-volatile seems appropriate.

Hope I did not mis-understand your posting.
