When I was in a BA program at Cornell in the early 80's, 120 units
("credits") were required for graduation. Students knew how many credits
they had earned so far, how many credits their current courses would grant
them, whether or not they had received passing grades in their completed
courses, etc. Under those circumstances, it would be pretty hard *not* to
know if you had earned enough credits for the degree. Unit counts must be a
lot more complicated nowadays.

Dan Goldstein
(75 credits completed as of June 1982)
