In my case, my position is technically a training
position (or entry level if you prefer) and my
supervisor's consider the list to be a training tool
and resource for myself and for them- a few months ago
I had a problem with Word (gasp of shock) and no one
here, or at the computer help desk we work with, knew
what was going on, I went on this list and received
assistance rather quickly... and the archives have
provided help inumerable times on other questions I
have had. This is a resource, just the same as my
books on FOIA's and negotiating conflicts between
special interest groups (or SME's as the case may be).

and every once in a while it's nice to read a
conversation about the true meaning of a word or the
correct use of a part of speech... I don't know about
other offices, but most of the people here get that
glassy eyed look when you even mention grammar or
correct wording. It's nice to know others who will
talk about those kinds of things and don't think it's
weird/strange/nerdy.
